Burundi Dry Process Agahore

Cupping Notes

This dry processed lot from Agahore Station showed restrained fruits, and syrupy bittersweetness at a wide roast range. City+ roasts had smells of dried blueberry, molasses, and a bittersweet layer of chocolate cake batter. Despite the intense bittersweet roast smells found at Full City+, dark fruit notes still infused the aromatic profile, like a berry-laced cocoa. My first sips of a light roast brew evoked bittersweet dark chocolate bar with red berry accent notes, and more was revealed as it cooled. This lot is certainly fruited, but shows more restraint than some of our other dry process coffees. Hints of natural dried stone fruit and black currents showed a quiet presence the more I sat with it, along with a note of cocoa dusted walnuts in the aftertaste. Dark roasts were delicious too. My Full City+ roast had immense body, bittersweet chocolate torte, and accents of dried plum and prune. All those flavors distilled down nicely as espresso as well, and my short shots had a pleasant bright spot that came off like the bittering/bright aspect of stone fruit skins, and added a nice intense aspect to the bittersweet core flavors.
